The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved a new initiative to establish and operate the Uttar Pradesh Artificial Intelligence Mission (UP-AIM), aiming to expand the state's capabilities in artificial intelligence through structured support and training programs.
The decision, made on October 9, 2026, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, sets out a framework for the mission's implementation and governance. UP-AIM is designed to function as an independent society within the IT & Electronics Department and will be managed by a chief executive officer.
The mission includes plans to provide both financial and non-financial assistance to at least 100 AI-focused startups. This support is intended to encourage innovation and the development of new technologies in the state.
As part of its training objectives, the mission targets the preparation of five lakh youth with AI skills. In addition, it aims to develop a workforce of 50,000 professionals equipped to work with advanced AI technologies in various sectors.
What the numbers show

UP-AIM also plans to create more than 100 use cases for artificial intelligence, with 25 to 30 of these expected to be scaled up for broader application. This approach is intended to promote practical adoption of AI solutions across different industries and services in the state.
To ensure widespread access to AI resources, the mission will establish district-level AI centres in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. These centres are intended to serve as hubs for local training, innovation, and support.
According to the mission's framework, the independent society model is expected to provide operational flexibility and focus, with oversight from the IT & Electronics Department. The CEO will be responsible for the mission's day-to-day activities and long-term strategy.
The approval of UP-AIM marks a formal step by the Uttar Pradesh government to organize and expand artificial intelligence initiatives, focusing on workforce development, startup support, and the creation of scalable AI applications throughout the state.
