Recent surveys have found that Philippine businesses face persistent challenges related to data security and privacy when considering the adoption of artificial intelligence technologies. These concerns are reflected in multiple reports, highlighting ongoing barriers to broader AI implementation across the country.

One survey conducted by Synology indicated that seven out of ten business respondents in the Philippines identified data security and privacy as primary obstacles to adopting AI solutions. The same survey reported that 90 percent of businesses considered having AI-ready infrastructure important for improving productivity and workflow efficiency.

Issues related to data management were also noted, with nearly 47 percent of surveyed businesses expressing concerns about data quality and availability. Additionally, about 40 percent of respondents stated that their data was distributed across various environments, and a similar proportion reported limited visibility into how information submitted to third-party AI tools is handled.

Confidence in data recovery measures was observed, as 72.4 percent of respondents said they could recover from a ransomware attack using protected backups, with roughly a quarter expressing strong confidence in these measures. Preferences for infrastructure varied, with 74 percent favoring on-premise or hybrid systems, while only 9.9 percent preferred public cloud solutions.

This survey also noted that 57 percent of businesses were either exploring or implementing AI, and 74 percent had moved all or most of their IT systems to cloud-based platforms.

The TrendAI study highlighted organizational pressures, with 67 percent of IT decision-makers and 72 percent of business decision-makers in the Philippines stating they felt pressure to approve AI projects despite existing security concerns. This suggests that while interest in AI remains high, apprehensions about data protection continue to influence decision-making processes.

Across these surveys, the recurring theme is that Philippine businesses are balancing the potential benefits of AI with ongoing challenges related to data management, security, and infrastructure preferences. The findings indicate that while AI adoption is progressing, concerns about privacy and data safety remain central to organizational strategies.
