Coal India Sets October Supply Record at 70.3 Million Tonnes
Coal India Limited’s October 2026 coal deliveries reached a monthly record of 70.3 million tonnes, according to the Ministry of Coal. Deliveries to the power sector also set a record, reaching 57.1 million tonnes during the month.
For power-sector deliveries, the ministry put the year-on-year increase at 19%. The previous monthly high for that sector was recorded in May 2024, when supplies totalled 56.5 million tonnes. Business Standard reported that the corresponding figure for October 2025 was 48 million tonnes.
Across all sectors, the ministry’s figures showed a 19% increase compared with October 2025, when Coal India supplied 59.2 million tonnes. The October 2026 total also exceeded the company’s earlier monthly peak of 69.4 million tonnes, recorded in March 2026.
The power sector accounted for nearly four-fifths of Coal India’s coal offtake during the first half of the 2026-27 financial year, according to a separate Ministry of Coal account of that period.
