Trafigura Signs $1.5 Billion Loan for SEFE Gas Supply

Trafigura said it signed a $1.5 billion borrowing agreement on 29 October 2026, with a five-year term, to support gas supplies to SEFE Securing Energy for Europe. The financing supports the companies’ five-year natural-gas supply contract.

According to SEFE, the new supply agreement covers 150 TWh in total, with annual deliveries of 30 TWh beginning on 1 November 2026. Trafigura said the first delivery is scheduled for that date and that its global gas portfolio is the planned source for most of the contracted volume.

SEFE said the arrangement follows a four-year contract with Trafigura under which annual supplies were approximately 23 TWh. That agreement expires at the end of October 2026.

For the financing, Trafigura stated that a German federal guarantee provides partial support through the Untied Loan Guarantee scheme, known as UFK. The Federal Republic of Germany provides the guarantee through Euler Hermes Aktiengesellschaft, according to the company.

The AGA Portal’s general description of UFK guarantees covers lender protection against specified political risks and covered losses arising from a borrower’s insolvency or prolonged failure to pay. That description concerns the guarantee programme generally and does not establish the coverage applicable to Trafigura’s loan.

According to Trafigura, nine banks formed the syndicate that arranged the financing. KfW IPEX-Bank committed $300 million and served as facility agent, alongside its roles as coordinator and agent for the export credit agency arrangements.
