Tech Shares Fall in Asia as US Government Bonds Rise

Technology stocks declined across Asian trading on Friday, October 30, 2026, as U.S. government bonds gained, according to Reuters. The report linked the moves to investor concerns about whether returns would be sufficient to justify the rapid increase in spending on artificial intelligence.

U.S. stock-index futures also traded lower before Friday’s market opening, according to the Associated Press. Shares in Amazon, Alphabet and Intel were down during the pre-market session.

Alphabet’s Thursday trading had ended with a 12.6% share-price decline on Wall Street, Reuters reported, with additional losses after hours. Reuters put the associated reduction in the company’s market value at approximately $500 billion. It also attributed Alphabet’s negative cash flow to the company’s AI spending.

For the October 29 U.S. session, the Associated Press identified Alphabet’s share-price fall as the principal contributor to the market’s losses. The Nasdaq Composite closed 1.4% lower, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 each recorded a decline of 0.3%.

In Tokyo trading on October 30, the yield on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury fell to 4.91%, a drop exceeding seven basis points, according to Reuters. The reported decline for October stood at roughly 37 basis points, the biggest monthly decrease since December 2023.
