BYD Quarterly Profit Rises 28% but Misses Estimates

BYD recorded RMB10.02 billion in net profit attributable to shareholders for July through September 2026, a 28.08% increase from the corresponding quarter of 2025, according to its quarterly report. The results, published on October 29, also showed revenue rising 13.59% to RMB221.49 billion.

The quarterly profit was below the forecasts of all three brokerages in a compilation by Reuters. Those estimates ranged between RMB11.4 billion and RMB12.95 billion.

For the first nine months of 2026, however, BYD’s report showed a year-over-year decline in shareholder-attributable net profit. The January-to-September total was RMB22.34 billion, down 4.24% against the same period in 2025. Revenue over those nine months amounted to RMB566.30 billion, leaving it nearly unchanged from a year earlier.

On the balance sheet, BYD reported RMB221.58 billion in inventories as of September 30, 2026. That compared with RMB138.42 billion on December 31, 2025, representing an increase of approximately 60%. In its explanation of that increase, the company stated that growth in its overseas automotive business was the main factor.
