Cybersecurity News reported that the survey covered 1,200 IT and security professionals across nine countries and eight sectors during the first half of 2026. The report’s figures describe the study’s respondents and cases, rather than ransomware incidents generally.

Semperis reported that psychological or physical threats against company staff were involved in 40% of attacks in the study. Separately, 37% of surveyed organizations reported threats against employees’ friends or relatives, according to Cybersecurity News’s summary of the report.

Among cases involving threats, victims said attackers carried them out in 53%, Semperis reported. The company also said 24% of surveyed victims or family members experienced swatting, which involves false emergency calls directed at a target.

Semperis reported that 25% of surveyed victims or their family members sought psychological or medical care after an attack. The company also found that 87% of attacks in the study targeted identity systems, including Active Directory, Entra ID or Okta.
