Concord Green Energy Acquires Saskatchewan’s Largest Wind Project

Concord Green Energy, a division of Concord Pacific, has completed the acquisition of the Golden South Wind Project, which is the largest operational wind facility in Saskatchewan by both turbine count and installed capacity.

This transaction expands Concord Green Energy’s renewable generation portfolio in Canada, bringing its total operating capacity to approximately 543 MW. The Golden South Wind Project began commercial operations in early 2022 and is contracted to supply electricity to SaskPower under a 25-year agreement.

The Golden South facility consists of 50 permanent magnet direct drive wind turbines, providing a net capacity of 200 MW and an installed generation capacity of 210 MW. The project represents an investment of $340 million and is reported to generate enough electricity for up to 100,000 homes in Saskatchewan.

Following the acquisition, Potentia Renewables will remain responsible for managing the day-to-day operations at the Golden South site. The purchase price for the project was reported by media sources to be in the range of several hundred million Canadian dollars.

Golden South’s capacity enables it to supply the annual electricity requirements of up to 100,000 Saskatchewan households. The project’s infrastructure and operational arrangements remain unchanged after the acquisition, with Potentia Renewables continuing its management role.

Concord Pacific stated that the acquisition nearly doubled the installed capacity of its renewables division. The company’s expanded portfolio now exceeds half a gigawatt of operating renewable energy assets in Canada.
